SARAVANAA BHAVAN INDIAN VEGETARIAN, PJ NEW TOWN

I love Indian food always had. Why? Coz of the sensation of the herbs and spices blasting in the mouth. So when ever I see a particular Indian restaurant my eyes sparkle up! This restaurant is located at PJ New Town or PJ State or Area 51.. oops I mean Section 52. Was driving pass it everytime I go to do my banking but was curious what they served. Its a vegetarian restaurant. So one fine day I decided to go in and try.

The ambiance was nice. Air conditioned and all. But going in I swore people was staring at me one kind. I guess I am big ahha. Anyway the waiter was very attentive. As we sat down the came and pass us the menu and ready to take our orders.

As I was scrolling through the menu there were many interesting names that till now I cant even remember how to spell it. I guess its some southern Indian i guess.

I ordered the plain naan. Well, nothing special about this but its nice, warm and fresh.

next is the the vegetarian chicken. Of course you cant compare with the real chicken but the flavour is just nice! and the vegetarian chicken does have a certain texture that makes you think its like chicken haha!

Honestly I cant remember what is this dish called. I know the waiter recommended it to me and its actually cream cheese cubes cooked in tomato, chilli and spices. Very interesting dish! the cheese and the gravy makes an interesting blend. Sweet, sour, salty and slightly spicy. Yum!

This is the devil's potato. Dont let the name scare you, its just spicy potato. Well the potato is done nicely and its not hard or too soft. The flavour is absorbed into the potato well. All this goes really well with the naan or thosai!

This is the tomato thosai... or is it naan. I cant remember, it was all introduced by the waiter. Sorry for the lack of information as this was taken few months back and was busy trying other food and .... yes i admit the lazy me didnt update it in this blog. Anyway this one is also another funny tasting dish. Its actually tasty. Its like thosai made with tomato ketchup! but its fresh tomato! nice!

What I can say is that this is indeed an interesting place to try. But one thing that might be a slight turnoff, it is the price. As much as I enjoyed the food but my plain naan cost RM5. Its quite costly but end of the day its a wholesome and good meal.

They open daily from 7am - 11pm

Location is opposite Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara. Same row with Eon bank, HSBC and CIMB. But parking is a bitch during the weekdays as it is a commercial area. Other notable landmark is the tall PKNS Building and the famous white pencil shaped MPPJ Tower.

Service: 6/10 (slightly slow on the food serving but they serve everything at once, waiter doesnt really understand English or BM well)
Food Quality: 8/10
Environment/ambience: 8/10 (Air Conditioned, spacious and nice layout)
Price: 7/10 (slightly pricey)

My verdict: Worth a try as the dishes are different from normal mamak or banana leaf restaurant. Basically its in between Mamak food and Indian Fine Dining.

Kashmir Cafe Food Adventure with PDSM 16 Gang

That was Saturday evening. It was after 3 hours exam and non-stop writing plus brain torture for me. Just hope that the Mr. B could be a good grade on this. Seriously, he is one hell of a bloodsucker as*hole bast*rd that manipulated his students for his own benefit. One more module, folks and I will never see his bloody face anymore!

Enough bitching about the not-so Inglorious bast-ass, my hand is numb after trapped in an air-con room with non-stop writing for 3 hours. Managed to drag all the gang to go to the same place I go every time my head is exploding, i.e. Kashmir Cafe, where food is the best remedy to your misery.

Kenneth wore this to exam that afternoon and I think it's hilarious. So which are you, babe? I gave JS the jelingan maut to make sure he answered it right. Or else, somebody gonna get a very bad day. Wuhahahah!

Of course, the first thing I must order is the Mango Lassi. I drank 2 glasses when I first came here for the food review with the other bloggers. I poisoned others too to order the same thing. Guess what, I might just organized a drinking competition with Mag to see who get brain-freeze first and could survive till to the last sip.

Let the race begins...

Before we started our dinner, we ordered these as starter. It was quite weird to order dessert as starter. We don't care because we wanna taste the great sweetness from the kuih Wajik.

When the leaf arrived and served with the necessary dishes for the banana leaf rice, we all started to dine the exquisite food in front of us. That means less talk and more eating. Silence was the only thing that time. Guess everybody is hungry and focus on the food instead.

JS in a total shock of silence? The food and the curry too good?

The closer view of the side dishes that could raise your appetite. If you do not wish to have heavy taste with the curry, you can always replace the curry with these and pour it on the rice instead.

Papadom, this is the ultimate dish that can't be miss in any banana leaf meal.

We also ordered something else as side dishes.

This is known to be the K.F.C. It's not the normal term that you get from the Colonel Sandler. It's known as the Kashmir Fried Chicken. It's a MUST try every time when you come here for a meal. It's tender and it has the crunchy feeling every time you munch on it.

Not to forget the mutton curry. The flavour from the spices make it's very addictive and you just can't stop eating it. Try it! At your own risk, of course.

Till next time, folks.
May I present you, PDSM 16 gang. That's our mirror-reflected group taking photo.

Food Review: Kashmir Cafes - Old Taste New Place

Masala Tosai

I was there at Kashmir Cafe with other bloggers to do a food review. It's my first FR with the bloggers who were long established compared to me. It's an honour to be sitting down a same table with bloggers like Marcus, Icednyior, Runningandrew, Sodapiink, Azri, Nigel,Lightyoruichi, FeeQ,

While Marcy trying to poison me with the DSLR talk, which I've "kena" big time, other bloggers busying taking a great snapshots of the food. The food looked good in the outside and taste good from the inside. As a Indian food lover since a kid, thanks to my mama, I've been always eager ti taste and look for new kind of Indian food. I love Banana Leaf and it's much easier to go out with a guy who appreciates this food. Thanked God, my guy loves it! He's a banana leaf junkie himself!

The first photo above this is the Masala Tosai. Guaranteed all your "masala" will be gone in just 1 bite. Ladies, if you have an heartache and that bastard Ex of your do not know how to appreciate Indian food like you do, let's replace Hagen Daas with this. Economical and effectively gives you the relief from problems and desperation. Sound convincing, try! Jangan tak cuba!

Crab Resam

This resam only available on Friday and Sunday. It taste very much different than normal resam that I've been tasted from other place. The rich and strong smell of herbs triggered my taste bud and make me feel satisfied with it. Ladies out there, the smell is not unbearable. Not to worry, folks. It's not as bad as you think.

If you wish to have a lighter taste for your meal, instead of daal or curry, you could use resam as your gravy on your rice. It's light in taste and not too overwhelming. Trust me, I can't stop eating my rice once I put on it with this and I've been asking for more rice after that. There goes my diet and thanks to the carbs. Who cares?! I don't. Just for a day, though.

Briyani - Chicken

This is the main course of the day. It's available in both Chicken and Mutton. I go for mutton, of course. I can't stop eating but too bad, my tummy space is so limited. But again this is worth trying to have one if you come to Kashmir Cafe for your ultimate banana leaf experience. The mutton meat is so soft and rich in spices as it's marinated long enough to taste it. It's addictive if you are a mutton junkie.

Talk about the dessert, I would say it's also available for us to taste. I love this one. Cheesecake from the east! Light in taste and not so overwhelmed with the cheese at all. It's a great way to me go through sleepy afternoon during tea time! However, I'm not sure whether it will always available for you guys to test it.

Kuih wajik~
Don't forget to taste this one too!

Manggo Lassi

This made me ordered TWICE. It's so addictive and perfect for hot weather too. It served with a bigger glass and the taste is well blended with the crused ice in it. Folks, try this! It's not too sweet or too sour at all. Just nice. Warning: It taste so good and you will drink so fast. Careful with that you will get brain freeze and go coo-coo!

~Thank you Marc_ky for the invitation and the great pictures too~

Till next time, folks. I'm organizing a small gathering with the PDSM at this place. Let them experienced what I've experienced too.

More pictures for you

KoRnholio says (Sorry Shereen! ehhe):

Service: 9/10 - attentive waiter and waiter constantly coming back and ask whether we are ok or not? Very well!

Food Quality: 7/10 - could have gone up to 8.5/10 had the curry was warm. Kudo's to the taste! really authentic.

Environment: 8/10 - Nice and comfy. Nothing spectacular but a nice cozy place to have a nice banana leaf!

Price: 8/10 - Normal banana leaf restaurant pricing. Reasonable and affordable!

My verdict: a "must" try! yummo!

Sun Raj Curry House

Lets start off from the place nearest to my house! Well lets say its a reliable indian/mamak food! everytime when i need a good dose of mamak/indian food and lazy to walk far all i know is I have to go to the cornershop near my home. The food is always fresh and hot. Unlike some mamak/indian food where when you wanna have dinner their dishes is already cold due as they are cooked in the afternoon...

ok so lets go to the main part! the foooood!!!

As standard mamak/indian restaurant/ curry house they have... nasi lauk. Have to say they have quite a nice variety of dishes for you to pick from, especially during lunch time. Everything is freshly cooked and the aroma of the curry... mmmmm... What I can say is their "devil's" chicken is fantastic, going along with their vegetarian/fake chicken rendang. fantastic! covering it with hot and fresh fish curry and crunchy parpadams and fresh rassum to wash down everything!

If you are not for the heavy meals then you should go for their rava thosai. Nice texture and crunchy enough! going well with the coconut chutney and warm dhal.

Drinks? get a nice cup of teh tarik/ais as it is not watered down like most mamaks and you can actually taste the taste of TEA instead of milk and sugar!

A good place to eat also as it is located in a housing area. Parking could be a slight problem...

Service: 7/10 (workers needs training on language... otherwise good and attentive)
Food Quality: 7/10
Environment/ambience: 7/10 (clean and tidy... but typical mamak style)
Price: 9/10

My verdict: hungry? need a place to have a nice decent fresh indian/mamak food with a decent price? Sun Raj is the place.
